{featured friday} there's something about mary
{featured friday} highlights some of my favorite blogs and websites that I want to share with all of you! These are blogs that consistently blow me away with amazing content. I know you’ll fall in love with them too!
This featured friday is a little special. While Mary's blog is one of my favorites, that's not the only reason I want to feature her today. In fact, there are many, many reasons she deserves this special post.
But let's back up and start at the beginning. Mary and I met while we were studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark spring of 2009. Actually, I'm not entirely sure how we ended up meeting...I think we took a class together? Mary? Is that right? It could have been because some of her classmates from Indiana were my neighbors in the American dorm I lived in. I'm not sure and neither one of us can remember. We actually tried to figure it out...but can't.

But that's not really important. The important part is, we met. And became sweet, sweet friends. We spent our spring break traveling through France and Italy together. It was clear that we got along great and really understood each other. We celebrated 21st birthdays together (not that exciting when you're abroad...) and I made homemade American Mac&Cheese for her host family.

When our program ended in May, we promised to keep in touch and made tentative plans to visit each other at school.

Senior year came and went. Sadly, we weren't able to plan a trip. Next year we said. But it didn't happen. And yet, while miles apart, Mary and I stayed close. We chatted on Skype and stayed up-to-date on the happenings in each other's lives. We comforted each other through break-ups (those silly boys) and new relationships (two great guys!). We chatted about jobs, shopping, make-up, skincare....
The crazy thing is, it's now April 2013. Mary and I haven't seen each other in person in almost four years. But you know what? I consider her one of my closest friends. It's amazing how after only spending a few months together in a foreign country, we created a friendship that has stood the test of time and distance!
Mary and I are each about to embark on new chapters in our lives and we're sharing those joys together. In just a few short weeks, Mary is headed to Charlotte, NC to teach Math for Teach For America! Her amazing boyfriend, Alex, is headed out there with her! I'm so proud of Mary for following her dreams and pursing her passion for education and children. She is going to make the most amazing teacher. I've also loved "watching" (hearing) Mary grow in her relationship with Alex. They have a strong bond and fully support each other. It's been such a blessing to watch them grow together.
This July, Mary and I will be reunited, at LAST! I'm so blessed that she'll be able to attend our wedding and that I'll finally get to meet Alex.
My friendship with Mary has shown me that if you have a true and strong friendship, nothing can break that! We've made it a point to stay in touch and stay involved in each other's lives. And for that, I'm thankful and blessed.
I can't wait to see you in July, Mary!
Mary also writes a fantastic blog that you should definitely start reading!
I'm so honored to be featured on your blog!! It's such a blessing that we were able to forge one of my closest friendships over a few months in Europe and lots of time on the internet! I can't wait to watch you walk down the aisle and continue to share in all of the exciting things to come in our lives :) Hugs!
